About this website
The desert tortoise website provides information and weblinks related to the threatened Mojave Desert Tortoise. Included within this site are photographs, maps, tools and resources for Recovery Implementation Teams, information about the range-wide monitoring program, and educational and outreach materials.
An educated public is more likely to appreciate their natural surroundings and be aware of the consequences they can have on desert tortoises. They are also likely to be more willing to engage in conservation activities and take responsibility for their actions than those with less knowledge. Active, engaging, and widespread efforts in schools, museums, clubs, and in Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service visitor centers and interpretive sites are needed to inform the public about the status of the desert tortoise and its recovery needs. We encourage you to browse, learn, and enjoy!
